David needed friends. Most of the ones he got weren't very desirable - but for David to survive and accomplish what He needed before becoming King He had to have others around him. Men who would protect him, push him, praise him and put him down a peg or two when needed. David wouldn't have been the man or king he was without the men around him - he needed them just as much as they needed him. Friendships are hard work sometimes, and you don't always end up with the friends you grew up with, but you were created for connection and you'll never accomplish more than you can with more friends.
