Episode Synopsis
Peter E. Murphy was born in Wales and grew up in New York City where he operated heavy equipment, managed a nightclub and drove a taxi. He is the author of eleven books and chapbooks including most recently, Mean Time and The Man Who Never Was. His poems, essays and photographs have been published in hundreds of journals including The Amsterdam Quarterly, The Beloit Poetry Journal, The Cortland Review, Diode, Guernica, Hippocampus, Hayden’s Ferry Review, The New York Times, The New Welsh Review, Rattle, The Shakespeare Quarterly and elsewhere. Looking for Thelma, an excerpt from his memoir-in-progress, won the 2018 Wilt Nonfiction Chapbook Prize sponsored by St. Leo University. He has received awards and fellowships for teaching and for writing from numerous organizations including The Folger Shakespeare Library, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, The National Endowment for the Humanities, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and Yaddo. The founder of Murphy Writing of Stockton University, Peter has led hundreds of workshops for writers and teachers.
