Triantha occidentalis, known since 1879, was only just recently discovered to carnivorous.
It "eats" bugs that get stuck to its stem, instead of trapping them in specially formed leaves.
The flower grows up and down the Pacific coastline.
This specific discovery spun out of an unrelated project on plant genetics at the University of British Columbia.
