Listen "E. Jen Slaton: Improving Parental Awareness of Children with Autism | Raising Parents #22"
Episode Synopsis
Parenting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be a rewarding yet challenging journey as it requires patience, understanding, and a deep awareness of the unique needs and experiences of children on the autism spectrum. By increasing parental awareness, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for these exceptional individuals.
In this episode of Raising Parents, host Dina Sargeant was joined by E. Jen Slaton, a neuro-affirming psychotherapist and coach for neurodiverse children, adults, and families, specializing in autism. She also provides diagnostic services and runs support groups for late identified autistic women, with a private community coming soon.
Throughout this episode, we explore unique challenges parents face when raising a child with ASD and common misconceptions surrounding autism. Jen provides guidance on how parents can educate themselves about the signs and symptoms of ASD, and highlights various resources available to parents, such as therapy services, educational programs, and government support.
