Episode Synopsis
BAM BAR 2024 continues…
Excerpt from a letter written January 8, 1970 in Soledad prison: “My dear Mother & Dad … I hope you understand. I wish I could talk to you and explain what the facts are about this hole I’m in, but sence [sic] I can’t, please believe me. I don’t get in trouble unless it is necessary.” – Alvin “Jug” Miller (20 years old, assassinated in Soledad prison January 13, 1970 along with W.L. Nolan and Cleveland Edwards sparking a statewide prison movement and uprising, and birthing Black August Memorial).
We continue our political and historical education regarding the roots of Black August Memorial and focus on Black August Resistance and its cultural origins through the lens of the three young martyrs W.L. Nolan, Cleveland Edwards and Alvin “Jug” Miller who were assassinated by the pig guard, O. Miller, January 13, 1970. (We memorialize them on FLEA day August 13, fasting 24 hours in remembrance).
Joka Heshima Jinsai of Build the AIM (still held captive after 30+ years, 20 in solitary confinement) co-hosts. We are joined by guests Brotha Fati Yero who’s been practicing BA since its inception and is integral in its further development, and Comrade Joka Hodari Kambon.
