Perfectionism

Perfectionism

Por: Deakin Life
University can be overwhelming for students who struggle with perfectionism. What is perfectionism? It’s the constant drive to meet unrealistically high standards, often paired with fear of failure or making mistakes. These students may spend excessive time on assignments, second-guess their work or avoid submitting tasks until they feel “perfect.” Perfectionism can affect both wellbeing and academic progress, leading to stress, burnout and procrastination.Adjusting to university expectations can intensify these pressures, as students face new challenges and comparisons with peers. This can result in self-criticism, anxiety and difficulty finding balance. They may hesitate to take risks, struggle with group work or feel like their best is never good enough.
