Nick Howland is a Jacksonville City Councilmember and the Executive Director of The Fire Watch, a nonprofit organization created with the sole purpose of reducing veteran suicide.The Fire Watch conducts trainings to companies, groups, and individuals to identify those who exude preemptive symptoms of suicide and arm them with the resources to get help to those in need.There are currently 8,331 trained "Watch Standers" with the aim of making the number soar in 2025.This episode unpacks what the Fire Watch is, why it exists, and the importance of its future. As a City Councilman, we spend time talking about the current and future state of Jacksonville, as well.We appreciate Nick taking the time to walk through the great work of the nonprofit and the interesting things happening throughout the city of Jacksonville.
