Listen "#26 I'm a bad mom 1: how (not) to manage disrespect"
Episode Synopsis
Whether you identify with this as a parent, as a leader of a team or more generally from a self-leadership perspective not feeling quite successful with your actions, I hope you will consider the point that when we feel like we're about to "go bananas", it's too late. That sounds negative, but what I really mean is this: when you feel that you're being triggered, pushed, disrespected and not listened to, you need to make sure you strengthen your boundaries and put your foot down much earlier. When you feel that initial irritation, THAT's when we should reset the flow in a conversation, that's when we need to hold our boundaries and speak up for what we believe to be the right way. In this episode, I share a "parenting fail" that I still think is quite OK and will be a story we laugh about as my children grow older. To be clear, it's not something I recommend as a parenting strategy. Clearly, I had no control over the situation, I felt that I had no other way out to create peace around me, and it was not an option to continue listening to the arguing between my children. I've said it before, I'm not a parenting expert!! Just a mom trying her best, and today I didn't do so well. In that moment, it was still my best. I inhale deeply, and focus on building the strength and focus to capture the frustration and triggering much earlier going forward. The shower incident will be remembered! What is a situation you've experienced where you "went bananas" or "lost it"?
