Listen "12: Defocus Media: What ODs need to know about YAG laser vitreolysis for floaters"

Episode Synopsis

Research shows that eight to 15 percent of patients with acute PVD have an associated retinal break that needs repair. However, the symptoms of flashing lights and floaters associated with acute PVD with no retinal break last on average up to three months.

For some patients, however, the floater itself is a cause of significant disturbance. How can ODs help patients whose lives are disrupted by the presence of a large, persistent floater?

Jessica Schiffbauer, OD, practices in an OD/MD referral clinic in Virginia Beach, VA. A day in her practice involves postoperative care, dry eye referrals, and plenty of flashes and floaters complaints.
