Listen "#145 | 1 Samuel: The Childhood of Samuel and Jesus Part 4"

Episode Synopsis

In this episode we keep digging onto into the often overlooked implications of the Greek word "prokopto" and how it points to the resistance Jesus faced in His growth and development. This resistance came from two primary sources: externally from the Devil, or Satan, and internally from His own human flesh.
We begin by looking at the immediate example of external resistance is Jesus' temptation by the Devil in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13). Here, the Devil, meaning accuser or slanderer, tests Jesus in various ways, attempting to take him off course. However, as we move to Luke 9—a pivotal moment in the narrative—the term shifts from Devil to Satan, meaning adversary. This change in terminology could signify an intensification of the external resistance, suggesting that the challenges Jesus faced became even more formidable.
Despite these mounting challenges, Jesus demonstrates His mastery in confronting the external resistance of Satan his adversary. We see this not only in His victory over the Devil in the wilderness but also in His teachings to the 72 disciples. When they return from their mission, filled with stories of triumph over demonic forces, Jesus redirects their focus. He emphasizes that the most important thing to focus on is not in their battle with the enemy but their relationship with God, who knows their names and guarantees their destinies.
This teaching highlights a critical insight: one of the enemy's tactic is to divert our attention away from God and onto the struggle itself. By doing so, we risk losing sight of what truly matters—our relationship with the God.
We conclude this episode with a powerful reminder: while spiritual warfare is real and challenging, our primary focus must remain on the joy and benefits of our relationship with God. It's this relationship that defines us, sustains us, and secures our destiny.
