Listen "Telling the Stories of Women in the Bible: A Conversation with Joanne Hagemeyer"
Episode Synopsis
Dr. Botner sits down with Joanne Hagemeyer ( @GraceandPeaceJoanne ) to discuss her incredible work on Women in the Bible. She discusses the importance of paying careful attention to the stories of women in the Bible, how to read with sensitivity the complex dynamics in biblical narrative, and how to approach texts that describe injustice and sexual violence against women. She shows that the key to reading these texts well is both a careful reading of the biblical text (with the arch of redemptive history) and a sensitive ear to the stories and experiences of women.
Joanne Guarnieri Hagemeyer, retired Teaching Leader and Area Advisor with Bible Study Fellowship, now teaches at Grace and Peace Joanne, LLC and serves on the pastoral and pulpit teaching teams of her church. She is both a member of the Board of Directors for Lay Counselor Institute, and for the Biblical Archaeology Forum. She has participated in two archaeological excavations, at Tel Kabri and Tel Akko, Israel and has joined the study team for the Akko Excavation.
Joanne has written two books: Love Feast (January, 2020) and Broken, Searching, Trusted, Powerful (July, 2020). She earned her MATS from Portland Seminary and is currently in a PhD program at Faulkner University. She lives in Maryland with her husband, enjoying canoeing, singing, traveling, and visiting their three grown children.
