Episode Synopsis
This week's On The Record is special, as we feature an interview with baseball icon Pete Rose. This interview was recorded just this past July at SEICon, making it possibly one of Rose's final interviews. Rick Horrow and Rose discuss the evolution of baseball, life in Las Vegas, Family and more in an interview where Rose's charisma shines. Rest in Peace Charlie Hustle! Pete Rose, also known as "Charlie Hustle," is one of Major League Baseball's (MLB) most iconic and controversial figures. As a player, Rose built a legendary career over 24 seasons, primarily with the Cincinnati Reds, accumulating 4,256 hits—a record that still stands today. His tenacity on the field, versatility in playing multiple positions, and leadership helped the Reds win two World Series championships in 1975 and 1976, and he later added a third with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980. However, Rose's career took a dramatic turn in 1989 when he was banned from baseball for life after an investigation found he had bet on MLB games while managing the Reds. Despite his Hall of Fame-worthy stats, the gambling scandal has kept him ineligible for induction. Rose remains a polarizing figure in baseball, with ongoing debates about his potential reinstatement and Hall of Fame consideration. His legacy has stood to be one of the most impactful across all of sports.
