Episode Synopsis "Observation 4"

This week's nature segment centers around the snowy weather we got this last week. Journey to the wintery wonderland of my backyard as we discuss hail, reflect on poetry, and follow a fluffy lapdog through the forest. As I mention in this podcast, one day last week graced my eyes with the loveliness that comes when the sun of a clear blue sky reflects and shimmers off the snowy earth. This reminded me of a French poem by Charles d'Orléans called "le temps a laissé son manteau" (or "The Season has Cast off its Coat" in English). Included here is a link to the full poem. This site also has an English translated version and an MP3 recording of someone reading the whole poem in French.  https://www.mamalisa.com/blog/le-temps-a-laiss-son-manteau-a-french-poem-by-charles-dorlans/ Today we also talk about the white-throated sparrow, Zonotrichia albicollis. below is the source I used from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency at tn.gov. In general when trying to identify a species some of my initial searches are on local government websites where there are lists of common birds, moths, reptiles, etc. with pictures. In most cases it is at least a good starting point, so I thought I would include a little insight into that process for anyone out there trying to identify an animal. https://www.tn.gov/twra/wildlife/birds/white-throated-sparrow.html
