Listen "What is Somatic Trauma Resolution"
Episode Synopsis
We've all experienced trauma. I think by now most of know what trauma means so it's no surprise that one of the questions I get asked the most is, "What is somatic trauma resolution?"
Today, I decided to answer this question in my podcast, Nurturing Resilience. To answer this question I first dive into quite a few terms and theories regarding trauma, the nervous system, and somatics.
In this episode I share:
1. What is trauma
2. What is big T and little T trauma and PTSD
3. What is somatics
4. How is trauma stored in the body
5. What is trauma resolution
6. The basics of the nervous system
What I love the most about this podcast is how I explain "trauma unity" or why we have to address both the mind and body for complete trauma resolution. I explain why and how our brain and body come into coherence after it has been fragmented from our traumatic experiences.
I highlight the importance of working with the body or bottom up approach including what research is showing is happening in the brain when we use somatics.
It's never about denying what happened or your experience. It's about learning how to be with the experience in your body without being triggered or activated. It's about making sense of the experience while working with the sensations of the body and brining in a felt sense of safety. Sometimes this takes time and help from a somatic practitioner.
After you listen I’d love to know what resonated for you, if you have any other questions for me, or other topics you’d like me to address. If you'd like to work with me on your own somatic process and trauma resolution from a somatic perspective, reach out for a consultation call.
