It's not an easy thing to admit, but I was definitely bullied most of my life.
My bully was formidable and knew exactly how to break me down. I don’t remember when I met him, but he definitely called me fat. He’d say I was fatter than the other kids. More stupid than the other kids. Less of a boy than the other boys. Never the boy that the girls though was cute. Funny but not the funniest. Definitely the nicest, but that also makes you less of a boy, less attractive… but that’s all you have.
For years he bullied me. I felt weak. I was happy, but empty. I had optimism, but saw every success as a stroke of luck rather than something I’d earned.
Over time, I've learned how to manage this and control the bullying I've experienced - even effectively confronting my bully. In this episode, I detail the times he tormented me during childhood and adulthood, and exactly how he'd do it - or more importantly, why I let him and how to keep him at bay.
