Listen "Episode 4 - Sensory needs, creating a safe sensory space"
Episode Synopsis
Today we are talking about sensory needs and how we once we know these, we are in a position to support our children better, potentially reducing the impact of our environment on their nervous system which can result in a fight/flight/freeze behavioural response.
95% of autistics have sensory processing disorder and so its really key that we understand sensory needs and sensory avoiding and seeking behaviours.
It can be such an easy exercise to carry out, an environmental audit, addressing all of the sensory stimuli in our spaces to determine the impact on our children.
But first we need to understand the reason why its so important that we get our spaces right for our children.
What does your environment look like?
What are the expected touch points?
What does it sound like?
What does it smell like?
What are you providing the children at snack and lunch time?
