God promised to give the New Testament churches pastors after his own heart (Jeremiah 3). These men put in the church to guide and lead God’s children in how they can walk more like Jesus in this fallen world. They are watchman for our souls, and accountable to God for their work. Our eternal security is guaranteed by the finished work of Jesus Christ but the day to day battle for the mind and our peace needs regular nourishment from the word of God. God’s design is for us to feed as the flock of God in our local church by the hand of the under shepherd with which God has blessed us.
