Dr. Moskowitz is using two new protocols in preventing and treating COVID-19.For prevention, we’re looking at the usual mast cell inhibitors:Antihistamines (both 1st and 2nd generation), andMonteleukast (Singulair) 10 mg qd.Quercetin, dissolved in alcohol: 1 g/day: a plant flavonoid said to inhibit the MRGPRX2 receptor. It’s contained in onions, grapes and many fruits and vegetables. It has very little solubility [2%] and therefore bioavailability in water.For treatment, we’re using asthma medications:Nasal steroids (Flonase, Nasocort) on day 1 of symptoms.Oral Prednisone: started w/in 48 hr of nasal steroids if symptoms worsen. Rapid pulse and taper over 2 wks with a slower taper for persistent shortness of breathAlbuterol and long-acting (formeterol, salbutamol) beta2 agonist inhalersNow that we’re interacting with patients, our goal is to keep them from going to the hospital.
