This hymn on goddess mahālakshmi who is in the form of lakshmi, sarasvati and pārvati, the supreme goddess who is the consort of nārāyaṇa was sung by Shankara when he was a brahmachari.Even today this hymn is recited with devotion praying the goddess mahālakshmi for wealth, good fortune and happiness.This hymn is called as kanakadhārā stotra. Kanaka means gold dhārā means rain the hymn which pleased the goddess to shower gold (wealth) on rooftop and hence it is called by the name kanakadhārā stotra since then.
