Listen "Matthew Lesson 42: Lifestyle of a Disciple"
Episode Synopsis
Send us a textMatthew 10:24-33 is the text for this lesson entitled "Lifestyle of a Disciple."Here, Jesus continues his instructions to the 12 apostles following his delivery of what is sometimes called "The Limited Commission." His directives paved the way not only for the disciples, but also for us today. Jesus also answers some important challenges and questions the disciples would face. As He prepared the group, Jesus pointed out that they should not expect easier treatment than He had experienced. He warned them that there would be mistreatment and even dangers in their ministry. Jesus reassured them, however, that they need have no fear because their destiny was fixed and they would overcome. With courage they should shout the good news from the rooftops! And their message to their audience should include warnings of the consequences of making a choice for evil.Matthew's gospel quotes 8 separate messages that Jesus taught about hell. These include:* Matthew 5:22* Matthew 5: 29-30* Matthew 10:28 (our text for this lesson)* Matthew 11:23* Matthew 16:18* Matthew 18:9* Matthew 23:15* Matthew 23:33Jesus assured the disciples that the Father values them and knows them. He notices all life he has created (sheep, sparrows), so of course he values them even more! The gospel reclaims the lives that are so often devalued by society. Disciples are called to confess (acknowledge, profess) their belief in Him before men, even in times of persecution and hardship, and Jesus would confess them, in turn, before His Father. Deny Him, and they would be denied.
