Send us a textText: Hebrews 5:11-14. Don't Be Sluggish! The purpose of this lesson is to be reminded that when enough time passes, we should be mature enough in our faith to teach the word. The word used in Hebrews is translated here as "sluggish" and was used to talk about the numb limbs of a sick lion. If we are spiritually sick because we've neglected opportunities to grow and work, we will be ineffective. Laziness is too tame a word, although laziness might be the motivating factor behind the lack of growth. It is vital to grow in our Christian lives. The writer of Hebrews notes that he is concerned that their sluggishness may keep the readers from understand this spiritual meaning. If Christians never grow in understanding, they won't be able to teach others. Some of the basic principles are listed in chapter six verse one: 1. Repentance from dead works (Old Testament law)2. Faith toward God.3. Instructions on washings/baptisms4. The laying on of hands5. Resurrection of the dead6. Eternal judgment7. Above list not meant to be exhaustiveFinally, we read that the lack of growth is compared to babies who need milk versus older children and adults who need meat and heartier food to grow. This mature Christian is described as someone who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
