Yes. He does. A very tragic and complex one. The prequel trilogy seems silly at first glance, which is precisely why its protagonist's arc works so well. Its tragedy contrasts so intensely with the trilogy's initial whimsy. Anakin's transformation throughout the prequel trilogy is a tour de force of writing, and writers can learn a lot by looking a little deeper at these films.
