Episode Synopsis

Levi sits down with the founder of @freebirdmvmt , Maddie Johnson!! *TRIGGER WARNING: MURDER, SEXUAL ASSAULT, SEX TRAFFICKING, DRUGS, WRONGFUL CONVICTION. Maddie Johnson is the Founder of Freebird Movement, a 501(C)(3) non-profit, that focuses on preventing and remedying wrongful convictions. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) where she graduated with a degree in marketing, entrepreneurship, and computer science. After working in various marketing, sales, and tech positions, she started Freebird to help those who have been wrongfully incarcerated. She started by developing a database and algorithm to find trends in previous wrongful convictions, in order to find innocent people in prison and prevent further wrongful convictions. In it’s first year, Freebird has launched two public petitions. One for Thomas Lee Jones Jr. in Statesboro, Georgia and one for Brandon Olivieri, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their third petition will be launching soon, and you’ll even get to hear about it on the “Life In Prison” Podcast, first! The Freebird Movement is at wonderful resource not only for innocent people seeking legal help and advice, but also a WONDERFUL resource for individuals who have already been exonerated and are looking for help transitioning back into society after being taken away from it. Maddie and I talk about the Freebird movement, the extensive (and genius) research that went into it, as well as our sports team differences 😉 you’ll even hear from Frankie, who likes to steal the spotlight.
