If you stop to think about it, we spend a lot of time watching. We watch for all sorts of things. We watch for who the Steelers are going to draft, or who the Pirates will draft this weekend with the #1 overall pick in the MLB draft. We watch for news of Supreme Court decisions, or the rescue of a soccer team trapped in a flooded cave a few years ago. 
We certainly spend a lot of time watching, and in today’s text, we’re going to see Jesus add some other things to the list that we should watch for. It’s pretty obvious that the things Jesus wants the disciples, and others, to watch for are things that are yet future for them. You don’t watch for things that have already happened. And as we’ll see, this chapter is all about the future. Some of that future is going to happen a little sooner, and some a lot later, but either way, Jesus says it is very important that they would be watching.
