Hi and welcome to Let’s Word Up! Each day we post a word of the day to help you improve your English language skills.

Today’s word of the day is wiggle.

Wiggle is a doing word therefore it is a verb.

To wiggle is to move or cause to move something up and down or side to side with small rapid movements.

An example of wiggle used as a verb in a sentence would be:

I slept on my arm and temporarily lost feeling in my hand, I could barely wiggle my fingers for five minutes.

Or, She's not going to wiggle her way out of this one, we have her caught red handed.

Wiggle can also be used as a noun with two meanings. Firstly it is a wiggling movement. Secondly it is a deviation in a line.

An example of wiggle used as a noun in a sentence would be:

Their cat does a funny little wiggle when she eats.

Or The line was supposed to be perfectly straight, but she noticed a slight wiggle.

Synonyms: jiggle, wriggle, twitch, flutter, shimmy.
