Hi and welcome to Let’s Word Up! Each day we post a word of the day to help you improve your English language skills.

Today’s word of the day is version.

Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, version is a noun.

Version has five meanings. Firstly it is a particular form of something that is changed from previous forms or other forms of the same type of thing. Secondly it is a particular edition, or translation of a book or other work. Thirdly it is an adaptation of a work such as a novel, music, or video game into a different medium or style. Fourthly it is a particular release of a piece of computer software. Lastly it is an account of something from a particular person's point of view.

An example of version used as a noun in a sentence would be:

This version of the design is too messy, let's go back to a more simple design.

She has an English version of the book but the original was written in French.

The theatre version of the story is more successful than the TV version.

We plan to fix a lot of the major bugs in version 2.0 of the app.

Or, He told them his side of the story that was a wildly different version to the one that they heard from the witnesses.

Version can also be used as a verb, meaning to create a new version of something.

An example of version used as a verb in a sentence would be:

Our plan is to version the film into other languages for other countries.
