Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, stead is a noun.

A stead is the place or role that someone or something should have or fill.

An example of the word stead used in a sentence would be:

He was arrested for committing fraud and I was promoted to run the company in his stead.

Or, She was selected to play in his stead while he recovered from injury.

Synonyms: place, role, position, station, slot.
