Hi and welcome to Let’s Word Up! Each day we post a word of the day to help you improve your English language skills.

Today’s word of the day is reminder.

Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, reminder is a noun.

Reminder has two meanings. Firstly it is a thing that causes someone to remember something. Secondly it is a letter sent to remind someone of an obligation such as a bill.

An example of the word reminder used in a sentence would be:

The burning smell was a shocking reminder of the pizza that she had left in the oven.

Or, He sent a reminder to the client, asking them to pay their bill.

Synonyms: prompt, cue, nudge, memento, souvenir.
