Today’s word of the day is incommensurable.

Incommensurable is a descriptive word therefore it is an adjective.

Incommensurable has two definitions. Firstly it describes things as not being able to be judged by the same standards due to not having a common standard of measurement. Secondly, in maths, it is used to describes numbers as being irrational.

An example of the word incommensurable used as an adjective in a sentence would be:

These things are incommensurable because they have nothing in common.

Or, Square roots are usually incommensurable.


Synonyms: unequal, incomparable, disproportionate, inconsistent, dissimilar.


Antonyms: commensurate, proportional, common, ordinary, generic.
