Today’s word of the day is feint.

Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, feint is a noun.

Feint has two meanings. Firstly it is a deceptive or pretended movement, especially used as a tactic in sports. Secondly it is a mock attack or movement in warfare, intended to distract or deceive an enemy.

An example of feint used as a noun in a sentence would be:

She made a feint to the left, tricking the players into thinking she was going that way before darting right and scoring a goal.

Or, The general knew that the unit moving up the mountain was just a feint and that the real attack was coming through the jungle.

Feint can also be used as a verb, meaning to make a deceptive or distracting movement, especially used in sports.

An example of feint used as a verb in a sentence would be:

The plan is to feint a left side attack and follow up with a real attack from the right.

Feint also be used as an adjective, describing paper printed with lines that act as a handwriting guide.

An example of Feint used as an adjective in a sentence would be:

He bought a bunch of feint paper so that he could practice his handwriting.

Synonyms: artifice, ruse, gambit, trick, bait.

Antonyms: truth, reality, sincerity, honour, frankness.
