Today’s word of the day is derogatory.

Derogatory is a descriptive word therefore it is an adjective.

Derogatory describes someone or something as displaying a critical or disrespectful attitude.

An example of the word derogatory used in a sentence would be:

The way he says my name sounds so derogatory, I feel offended every time he calls me.

Or, They promised an unbiased report but the article came off as derogatory and seemed to insult minority communities.

Synonyms: disparaging, belittling, diminishing, slighting, insulting.

Antonyms: complimentary, flattering, favourable, positive, friendly.
