Today’s word of the day is antibiotic.

Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, antibiotic is a noun.

An antibiotic is a medicine that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms. It is primarily used to treat bacterial infections and is almost always referred to in the plural form, antibiotics.

An example of the word antibiotic used as a noun in a sentence would be:

The vet prescribed antibiotics to treat our cats leg infection.

Or, After a week of antibiotics, my infection started to clear up.

Antibiotic can also be used as an adjective, describing something as being related to antibiotics.

An example of antibiotic used as an adjective in a sentence would be:

Antibiotic therapy is the best way to treat an infection.

Or, We need to stop by the pharmacy to pick up some antibiotic medicine.
