Today’s word of the day is alike.
Alike is a descriptive word therefore it is an adjective.
Alike describes multiple things as being similar to each other.
An example of the word alike used as an adjective in a sentence would be:
Her shop is full of beautiful custom works, no two are alike.
Or, They quickly found out that they were very alike and their friendship blossomed.
Alike can also be used as an adverb with two meanings. Firstly it describes actions as being done in the same or similar way. Secondly it is used to show that something applies equally to a number of specified subjects.
An example of the word alike used as an adverb in a sentence would be:
The twins looked and acted alike, so it was hard to tell them apart.
Or, We have to be fair to the teachers and students alike.
Synonyms: similar, indistinguishable, uniform, identically, likewise.
Antonyms: different, diverse, unlike, otherwise, contrarily.
