Episode Synopsis

The National Institute of Mental Health reports: Mental illnesses are common in the United States. Nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (51.5 million in 2019). Mental illnesses include many different conditions that vary in degree of severity, ranging from mild to moderate too severe. Two broad categories can be used to describe these conditions: Any Mental Illness (AMI) and Serious Mental Illness (SMI). AMI encompasses all recognized mental illnesses. SMI is a smaller and more severe subset of AMI. Zach Westerbeck is a professional mental health speaker, College Success Coach, and author of the book “You’re Not Alone”. Zach has a mission to help educate college students and organizations around the world to understand the complexities of depression and anxiety in today’s modern society. He joined me this week to tell me why he believes now more than ever we must be cognizant of our Mental Health.
