Listen "CHOP asks judge to throw out Trump administration's subpoena for medical information of transgender patients"

Episode Synopsis

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is defending its care for transgender patients and asking a judge to throw out the Trump administration's subpoena for information.

In a court filing, CHOP's lawyers say the government can't justify its request. The White House claims CHOP doctors lied about diagnoses to get insurance companies to cover off-label prescriptions for patients with gender dysphoria. The Trump administration is asking for patient names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and medical information.

CHOP, in the filing, calls the government's allegations "threadbare" and "of dubious origin," and it calls the legal theories "fatally flawed" and "fundamentally unsound."

They say a lawsuit against CHOP cited by the government was never actually filed. Instead, lawyers for the hospital say the details appear to come from a New York Post article about someone who claimed to be a former patient at CHOP and said they were suing, but never did.
