Listen "Known in Your Bones #5"
Episode Synopsis
Our skin is a complex and dynamic organ and has evolved to protect us from harsh ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun. This can be seen through melanin, where people who live closer to the equator have darker skin tones and those living further north have fairer skin. This plays an important role in vitamin D and how it came to be known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’. From a foetus in the womb to infancy, through to adulthood and old age, our bones are constantly remodelling. They tell the story of how we lived and our contact with the sun.An arts and heritage podcast that shines a light on the sunshine Vitamin D and its all-powerful influence on and in our lives.Take a journey through the story of sunshine and Vitamin D through five different lenses - migration, food, equality, health and nature. Each episode features a mix of women’s voices, sharing original poetry and stories, offering food for thought and provocations, mixed with historical information, scientific facts, evocative sounds and music.
