We begin the Advent season by taking a look at Hope and Light. Advent means “arrival” in Latin and has come to mean “waiting” in our contemporary understanding. At the time of Jesus’s birth, the wait was for rescue from oppression and darkness brought by a ruling Empire – they waited and hoped for Light to come.
