Listen "Gregory Issacs - Warning"
Episode Synopsis
Gregory IsaacsGregory ‘The Cool Ruler’ Isaacs is probably the most famous reggae artist alive today. It was in 1973, when he set up his own record label ‘African Museum’ with fellow singer Errol Dunkley, that he released ‘My Only Lover’, which was an immediate success. Between 1973 and 1976 Isaacs released more material than most artists do in a lifetime and nearly all of these works became classics. He soon became too big a talent to ignore and in 1978 joined the Virgin ‘Frontline’ label, where he released two more distinctive albums, namely the brilliant ‘Cool Ruler’ and ‘Soon Forward’. After his departure from Virgin, circa 1980, Isaacs cut several tracks with Sly & Robbie for their ‘Taxi’ label. It was around this time that Island Records signed the star and recorded some of his biggest hits to date. In his long and distinguished career, Gregory has worked with every great producer and fellow artist. ‘The Cool Ruler’ he remains.
