Listen "Speak Life Poetry Series: Sometimes We Don't Pray"
Episode Synopsis
Classie has created a collection of written spoken word poetry. In this mini series, Classie is sharing in the first episode a poem called, "Sometimes We Don't Pray". This piece is a reflection of how each of us can fall from grace and lose our faith. But in the midst of it all, how do we find the strength to rise again... Classie uses this piece to question how far we fall from prayer, from solitude, and from faith in a world that is broken. I invite you to comment and to share. Poem "Sometimes We Don't Pray"Sometimes we don't pray... sometimes I don't pray... I forget that faith is not built on weariness and drifting thoughts memorialized on slave ships and chained down by chain gangs and rhythmic sounds singing hallelujah... No, faith is not built by dehumanizing patronage left the tongues of patriots screaming, "bless America... bless me... bless only me" for we have all sinned. See, sometimes we don't pray. We prey on the souls of others inflicted judgement like syringes and needles, I cringe. We become addicted to the inflicted, left shaking and shivering as we want more.. we yearn for more..more hands for preying. Preying on the thoughts of come backs, getting over, forgetting and not forgiving. The slaying and slanging of bodies, labored hands, tainted worries left frozen. Suspended on a string, left without air, chocking... chocking out the breath of every last child... left... see sometimes we don’t pray. Pray for the future, take action when it’s useful, raise our voices when it’s truthful.. see sometimes we don’t pray. We follow a path that makes us go mad, young folks, get badder, and we just can’t climb the ladder anymore, we’re stuck in oppression it’s like an obsession we choke out our blessings and live life without lessons.See sometimes we don’t pray. Broken and battered, each life left here shattered and I just wish that it all mattered, to you... when you prey on the racial divides, equality for all lives, mourning souls, and girls confusing sex for relationship goals, I just wish that it mattered when you prey on hearts that have been battered, shackled and chained like the slaves lost but who saves... getting lost in the sauce. see sometimes we don’t pray for our humanity, rather we stand up in our vanity, blind eyes to emotionless dreams, giving birth to a earth without means, a faith without grace, a laughable escape because...See sometimes we don’t pray. Sometimes I don’t pray. I forget that faith is not built on weariness and drifting thoughts memorialized on slave ships and chained down by chain gangs and rhythmic sounds singing hallelujah...
