Listen "ITC 08-17-24 BOOK CLUB Excerpt: "The World Will Follow Joy""
Episode Synopsis
The ITC Book Club takes a pause for a poet’s perspective. I read and discuss selections from Alice Walker’s book “The World Will Follow Joy Turning Madness Into Flowers (New Poems).” Walker, a staunch humanitarian, anti-war/social justice/ecological activist, and prolific writer, became the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1983 for “The Color Purple.” Her work is illuminating and evocative of deep emotion: reverence for beauty, disdain for domination, and a call to action for liberation of all.
