Listen "Episode 5: It's Black Futures Month Ya'll"

Episode Synopsis

I recently saw a Sister refer to Black History Month as Black Futures Month. The replacement of history with future is a wonderful reminder that we have the ability to frame beautiful Black Futures. That is the theme of this week's episode. In Segment 1, what we are not fuxing with is not being knowledgeable about our stories. I use my experiences in the West African country of Mali as a history marker to compare what was happening in Europe during this time. Hint, while Africans were navigating intricate trade routes using the stars, Europeans were throwing s*it out of windows(literally). It is critical for our children to be aware of these histories. In Segment 2, we consider the implications of our environment, specifically the neighborhoods in which Uppity Black Women live. What does this do to the Uppity Black Woman's mental state? Is the Uppity Black Woman incorrect in selecting certain neighborhoods to live and raise her children? Is the work it takes to live in these spaces, worth it? What is an Uppity Black Woman to do? If you are an Uppity Black Woman, ready to say: I.Can't.Fux.With.You!
