Episode Synopsis

Uppity Black Women, ya'll not heeding the call.  What we not fuxing with today is early death. We should all be deeply troubled given the recent unfortunate news related to the deaths of fellow Uppity Black Women, both Presidents of Institutions of Higher Learning.  71 years old, President Joanne Epps, Interim President of Temple University died while on-stage at a University event - an event in which she was heading. President Epps was subsequently carried off stage and the event went on. 56 year old Dr. Orinthia T. Montague, President of Volunteer State Community College also died recently. While circumstances around her death have not been public, I can say with assurance, this Black Woman should not be dead at 56. Their deaths, so close to each other, have spurred conversation about what we as Black Women give of ourselves in places of work with the reward being untimely death. We will use an article written by Menah Pratt, VP of Strategic Affairs and Diversity and Full Professor of Education, entitled Simon Says, 'Take Two Giant Steps Backward'  to frame the necessity of heeding the call of stopping, of recognizing that the show will continue post your departure. We should not confuse taking two steps back with cessation of moving towards our own dreams, our God-given talents and right livelihoods, our joys - but rather the two steps backward as a way to actually cultivate them. Sis, you have to stop and listen. Have you done that as of late? Can you commit to that? To be carried off stage as your final act is not what was written for you - so what will you do about that today? Today, will you heed the call to take two GIANT steps back?REFERENCES IN TODAY'S EPISODEPresident Joanne Epps - ObituaryDr. Orinthia Montague - ObituaryMenah Pratt, Simon Says, "Take Two Giant Steps Backward." Don Miguel Ruiz, Chapter 6: Inner Silence, The Circle of Fire - Inspiration and Guided Meditations for Living in Love and HappinessIf you are an Uppity Black Woman, ready to say: I.Can't.Fux.With.You!
