Listen "Episode 29: Cross an Ocean and Still Get Read"
Episode Synopsis
Sis, we are live from Egypt this week, and the sh*t we not fuxing with is the energies we use to prepare for situations that end up not materializing. Prior to touching soil in the area many (including me) consider to be the cradle of civilization, I mentally prepared myself for the maltreatment I expected to receive as a dark-skinned Black person, given the usual representation of Egyptians as having physical characteristics closer to whiteness. My interactions with Egyptians suggests that the hardened armor I put on before touching soil really was for naught. This thus causes me ponder, how do we show up in situations where we expect to be treated differently due to our race, class, and gender? While there are times our hardened exteriors and expended energies in preparation of that maltreatment is warranted, there are times that they are not. What does that "preparation" subsequently block us from receiving? We also discuss today the futile exercise of running from yourself. How does one respond when someone, who does not know them, tells them exactly who they are. We'll revisit a recent interaction with "a random Egyptian dude" who stated with perfection, what I needed to STOP doing in order to progress in my life. And like I said, this man is unknown to me, yet he had a message to deliver. Sis, you cannot hide from yourself, and there are parts of you exposed to the world - even if you think you have buried them deep underground. So what's your block friend - what message does the Universe continue to whisper to you to aid you in moving forward? If you are an Uppity Black Woman, ready to say: I.Can't.Fux.With.You!
