The game is a part of theTrails series, itself a part of the larger The Legend of Heroes series, andserves as the final entry in the Trails in the Sky arc. Trails in the Sky the 3rd first released in Japan forWindows and later for the PlayStation Portable. It did not see an Englishrelease until 2017 due to the game's large amount of text necessary totranslate.
