Over 2,000 years ago, through dense woods, fog and swamp, 20,000 Roman soldiers marched through Teutoburg Forest, Germania, on routine assignment. What followed was not only disaster for them, but marked a turn in the entire Roman empire. Through cunning and deception, the German leader, Arminius, led an ambush that slaughtered three entire legions, cementing freedom for the Germanic tribes and permanently shifting foreign policy in the Roman empire. This is the story of the massacre of Teutoburg Forest.
