Listen "Vassily Primakov"
Episode Synopsis
The 50th Anniversary Performance of Salt Lake's Repertory Dance Theater brings concert pianist Vassily Primakov to Utah. Born in Moscow, he began his studies at Moscow's Central Special Music School when he was 11 and arrived in the USA in 1997 as a 17-year-old to study at the Julliard School where he went on to earn both bachelor and master's degrees. Performing in concert halls all over the USA and internationally from South Africa to Europe, he has recorded nearly 20 albums from solos of his own technical mastery, to concertos with the Odense Symphony and Norwegian Radio orchestras, to duets with Natalie Lavrova. He was a semi-finalist in the Van Cliburn Competition, earned second prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition, and was Silver medalist of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition.
