Listen "The Color of Justice: New Thinking For A New Generation w/ Devan Leos and Sonny Von Cleveland | Ep. 47"

Episode Synopsis

Devan Leos was a scared, 19-year-old LatinX Disney Channel actor when he was jailed for “vehicular assault” because his car barely grazed a man assaulting his friend. Two years later, 19-year-old white male Kyle Rittenhouse murdered two peaceful protestors and was acquitted of all charges. Ayush and Nitin break down this discrepancy in the criminal justice system and the dozens more that define America’s racist institutions, and consequently, the life of minorities in this country. Specifically, we provide Devan Leos and Sonny Von Cleveland, a former convict who served 18 years, a platform to voice the horrors of their time in prison and the media’s glorification of the jail experience. Ultimately, post-incarceration, Leos and Von Cleveland transformed their local communities through social entrepreneurship and motivational speaking, illustrating our hope for a brighter America that is more accepting of formerly incarcerated individuals and thus benefits from their contributions.
