Listen "Shifting of tides in "opting in" to revenue sharing at SDSU, USD, NDSU, UND?"
Episode Synopsis
We thought none of them were going to do it. A couple months ago, it appeared none of the Div. I schools from South Dakota and North Dakota were leaning toward "optin in" to the recently approved NCAA-House Settlement that will allow schools to pay athletes directly via revenue sharing. Now, one of them — UND — has its athletic director on the record saying the school is probably going to do opt in after all. Two of them — NDSU and USD — are on the record saying they are still considering opting in. One of them — SDSU — is leaning toward still not doing it, when Happy Hour host John Gaskins last received a stance from athletic director Justin Sell on Sunday. Why have things changed so much? What would be the advantages and disadvantages of "opting in," and what would be the risk of not opting in if peer institutions decided to opt in?
