Welcome to the second episode of the Small Changes, Big Impact Series by Hali Hewa Podcast in collaboration with the Africa SLCP Project.
This series will see the production of 11 podcast episodes published on a monthly basis dedicated to creating awareness on Short Lived Climate Pollutants and highlighting the plight of air pollution in Africa, spotlighting experts from the African continent. Together we will break down these complex terms and concepts and help you to understand how you can both improve your health and live up to your personal responsibility as a citizen of the planet by reducing your emissions and in the long run, help to mitigate further impacts of climate change.
We are joined today by very special guests Dr. Alice Akinyi Kaudia.
Dr. Alice Akinyi Kaudia served as Kenya’s first Environment Secretary between 2008 and September 2018, and is now the Senior Africa Advisor at the Climate and Clean Air Coalition. In a career spanning over three decades, she has worked for various international non-governmental organizations, government ministries and in the private sector - with a focus on bridging the gaps between, science policy and practice in the environmental sector.
In this episode, Dr. Alice Kaudia shares with the audience how people might encounter SLCPs in their daily lives and how it matters. She also explains the health implications that SLCPs bring especially to the most vulnerable population that is women and children. She shares with us the policies that exist at the moment towards reducing SLCPs and the barriers towards implementation of the same.
She closes by highlighting some of the actions that we can take at an individual level to reduce Short Lived Climate Pollutants to protect our health and to slow the rate of climate change for a better planet and the prosperity of all
