In Judges 6, we are introduced a judge, Gideon. He comes on the scene, threshing wheat in secret because the Midianites would steal their grain. They had been suffering at their hands for the past 7 years. Imagine you planted a garden and every time you were ready to get a harvest, someone would come and take all your produce. They would leave you with no food for your family and cause terrible harm to you and your animals. This is what has been happening to Gideon and the Israelites. They are crying out to God for help. God answers, first with a prophet, and then Himself!!
After years of humiliation, fruitless labour, poverty, and domination by an oppressive power, Israel finally cried out to God. Prayer was their last resort instead of their first resource.
